R- Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) is a vitamin-like substance naturally produced in the body. In addition to neutralizing dangerous free radicals, ALA is an essential cofactor of four mitochondrial enzyme complexes used in aerobic cellular metabolism to produce energy. ALA chelates both intracellular and extracellular mercury and significantly increases biliary excretion of mercury in experimental studies.
